Fund Raising Information
As a tax-exempt, not-for-profit (501-C3) corporation registered in the state of Florida, Sun Grove Montessori School may accept donations that are tax deductible. In addition, the Board of Directors of Sun Grove Montessori School runs a fund-raising program that encourages contributions from sources other than parents.
An active fund-raising program encourages cooperation within the parent body and raises funds that benefit your child in many ways. Because our budget is based on meeting current expenses only, we look to fund raising for those items that would be great to have. If student population drops below budgeted levels, the school looks to fund raising for funds. Each event has a goal -- a piece of new playground equipment, new computers, help with payroll (!), new materials for the classrooms, etc. Funds raised also helps keeps tuition at a reasonable rate.
A typical fund-raising year will include several different events:
- Sally Foster Gift Wrap sale offered in September.
- Human-i-tees T-shirt sales.
- Holiday Ball -- held in December.
- Spring Carnival -- held in March.
You may also count fund raising hours for classroom, building and/or grounds refurbishing. Any work you do that makes Sun Grove money or alleviates Sun Grove from paying for work to be done, can earn you hours. Always check with the office to make sure. Volunteering at our Thanksgiving Feast, attending ceremonies and meetings, driving on field trips, etc., show your dedication to Sun Grove and your child, but do not generate funds, therefore do not earn hours.
New fund raiding ideas are very welcome and may be brought to the board of directors for approval.
Each family is expected to contribute 20 hours toward the fund raising effort. Many parents contribute much more than their required hours, for which the children are very appreciative. The charge for unworked hours is $20.00 per hour.
Your contract also requires each parent to spend a minimum of two hours per year in observation of classrooms, one of your child's classroom and another hour observing the next classroom appropriate for your child. These hours are required and do not count toward your 20 fund raising hours.
